Place-Making

This is the goal of our client-focused design and construction practice. The clients needs, the site’s features, and local environmental conditions inspire the ecologically-attuned landscapes we conceive and craft.

Places incorporate the experiences and aspirations of people, emerging as people use them. They meld over time, saturating a space with distinct, significant patterns strengthing the connection between people and place.

As landscape architects, we believe in helping people create places. We do this by listening, observing, understanding, and careful communication all layered through our design and construction process.

The ability to make nature visible and meaningful is a strong aspect of our design and construction process. Our projects re-establish a human connection with nature through artistic manipulation of patterns, forms, and elements. We strive to acknowledge and foster awareness between the connection of building and landscape, between different materials, between natural systems, the built environment and our clients.

Practicing in Texas and Hawaii, our portfolio spans schoolyards, playgrounds, community developments, high-end residential properties, and innovative solutions for bars, restaurants, and other high-density public spaces. We are also deeply committed to social impact, contributing pro-bono design and construction efforts to support displaced populations. Across all our work, we aim to create spaces that are not only functional and beautiful but also deeply resonant, bridging the needs of our clients with the rhythms of the natural world.

Design

We begin each project by analyzing the constraints and opportunities of the site; those qualities are matched with the clients’ needs and market reality. Through a cyclical design process, the client is engaged to discuss alternatives, which potentially reconcile diverse and even conflicting priorities. Without fail, this method helps develop a visceral connection with the project, the environment and the client.

Design services range from illustrative conceptual plans to final construction document sets for bidding and implementation. Our design team is supervised by Stephen Breaux, Landscape Architect #2598.

Construction

With seamless execution from design to construction, the clients’ ideas about the heart of the project are realized in physical form. Our experienced artisans build walls that stand, pavement that drains, and install plants that live and grow. We still work for our very first client.

Consultation

Storm water management, soils, climate, sun and moon paths, topography, contextual relationships, vegetation types and patterns, wildlife corridors, view sheds, and noise abatement; these are all critical characteristics that help identify unique opportunities and constraints of a site. They are also helpful in assessment of a prospective land purchase. As such, our consultation services range from comprehensive site analysis to land use feasibility studies for residential clients or land developers.

Meet Stephen

Stephen Breaux, founder of Breaux Design Group, thrives at the intersection of art, science, and ingenuity. His journey began at the drafting table of his father, a mechanical and electrical engineer. While working at a boutique nursery, Stephen was mentored by a Japanese designer who revealed timeless principles of balance and harmony that forever transformed his perspective, sparking a lifelong passion for intentional design. Captivated by the dynamic fusion of art, science, and engineering found in landscape architecture, Stephen pursued a BSLA from Texas A&M, earning accolades and transformative experiences in Italy under renowned designers. Fueled by an entrepreneurial spirit, he launched Breaux Design Group to craft spaces that are as innovative as they are enduring.

He is a professional landscape architect licensed in Texas #2498 and Hawaii #20379.
